Abstract

Language ideologies significantly influence how university students perceive, learn, and use English in multilingual societies. In Uzbekistan, the increasing importance of English as a global language has shaped students’ beliefs about its educational, professional, and social value. This article explores English language ideologies among university students by examining their attitudes, motivations, and perceptions toward learning and using English. The study highlights how globalization, educational reforms, and employment opportunities contribute to positive attitudes toward English while also emphasizing the importance of preserving the Uzbek language and national identity. The findings suggest that most students consider English an essential tool for academic achievement, international communication, and career development rather than a threat to their native language and culture.
