Abstract

This article investigates one of the most common linguistic challenges faced by Uzbek learners of English: the phenomenon of "false friends" (false cognates). It analyzes English lexical units that are morphologically or phonetically similar to Uzbek words (or loanwords from Russian used in Uzbek) but differ completely in meaning. The purpose of this study is to reduce speech and translation errors among students, as well as to shed light on the phenomenon of cross-linguistic interference from both academic and practical perspectives.
