A LINGUISTIC DESCRIPTION OF THE PROSODIC SYSTEMS OF UZBEK, ENGLISH, AND CHINESE

Abstract

Prosody is a fundamental component of spoken language that organizes and conveys meaning beyond the segmental level. It includes suprasegmental features such as stress, intonation, rhythm, pitch, tempo, and pauses. This study examines the prosodic systems of Uzbek, English, and Chinese through descriptive and analytical methods. The research focuses on the structural features and communicative functions of prosodic elements in these languages. The findings show that Uzbek primarily relies on stress and intonation, English demonstrates a complex interaction of stress, rhythm, and intonation, while Chinese is characterized by a tonal system in which pitch variation contributes to lexical meaning. The study provides a theoretical basis for comparative prosodic research and highlights both language-specific patterns and universal aspects of speech organization.
