PECULIARITIES OF TRANSLATING ARCHAISMS AND HISTORICISMS IN HISTORICAL TEXTS

Abstract

This article examines the peculiarities of translating archaisms and historicisms in historical texts, focusing on the linguistic and cultural challenges these lexical units present. Archaisms and historicisms play a crucial role in preserving the historical atmosphere, stylistic authenticity, and cultural identity of historical narratives. However, the absence of direct lexical equivalents in the target language often complicates the translation process. Drawing on established theories in translation studies, the article analyzes the most effective strategies for rendering such vocabulary, including borrowing, descriptive translation, functional equivalence, selective modernization, and the use of translator's notes.
