Abstract

This paper explores the influence of nonverbal cues on interpersonal relationships across various cultural contexts. Nonverbal indicators – including posture, facial expressions, gestures, eye contact, and proxemics – communicate emotions and intentions. While some cues are universal, many differ significantly between cultures, potentially causing cross-cultural misunderstandings. The study analyzes how cultural norms affect the interpretation of nonverbal behavior and highlights key cross-cultural differences. Awareness of these distinctions can help professionals and students communicate more effectively in multicultural environments and lessen cultural misunderstandings. Key words: nonverbal communication, culture, interpersonal interaction, gestures, facial expressions, proxemics, cross-cultural differences.
