THE ROLE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN MODERN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING IN HIGHER EDUCATION

The rapid development of digital technologies has significantly transformed English language teaching (ELT) in higher education. Digital tools such as learning management systems, artificial intelligence–based applications, online collaboration platforms, and multimedia resources have reshaped pedagogical approaches, learner engagement, and assessment practices. This article examines the role of digital technologies in modern English classes at the tertiary level, focusing on their pedagogical benefits, challenges, and implications for teachers and learners. The study highlights how technology-enhanced instruction supports communicative competence, learner autonomy, and personalized learning while also addressing issues related to digital literacy, teacher training, and equity. The article concludes that digital technologies, when pedagogically grounded, can substantially enhance the quality and effectiveness of English language education in higher institutions.
