Abstract

The assessment of speaking skills in English as a Second Language (ESL) classrooms is a fundamental component of language education. As speaking is both a productive and interactive skill, measuring students’ spoken language ability in a valid, reliable, and practical manner is a priority for teachers and curriculum designers. The process is multifaceted, involving various approaches, criteria, and pedagogical considerations. A clear understanding of effective assessment methodologies not only aids in evaluating learners’ proficiency but also supports instructional goals, provides constructive feedback, and fosters student confidence in communicative competence.
