Abstract

Linguistic interference is one of  major challenges faced by Uzbek speaking in the process of learning. Differences between the grammatical structures, phonetic systems, and lexical usage of Uzbek and English often lead to persistent errors in students’ spoken and written language. This article examines the most common types of linguistic interference encountered in English language teaching to Uzbek-speaking learners, including phonological, grammatical, and lexical interference. In addition, the study discusses effective strategies for reducing negative transfer, such as contrastive analysis, focused error correction, communicative practice, and increased exposure to authentic language input. The findings suggest that raising learners’ awareness of cross-linguistic differences and applying targeted teaching techniques can significantly improve language accuracy and overall proficiency. Furthermore, the integration of interactive classroom activities and learner-centered approaches is highlighted as a key factor in promoting effective language acquisition.
